A process of filling sliver into the container which is fixed above a spinning frame. The coil of new sliver is transported to the container, and the end of the expiring coil is attached to the new supply, before reloading. The appts. is also claimed. Pref. there is a multiple of spinning units on the frame (1), each of which has a supply of sliver (3), which is formed in a coil (7) inside the container (2). This has walls (6) held in position by a bracket (4), and there are several hinged fingers (9) at the base, to support the coil of sliver. When the sliver has been drawn out to reach a low level, a trolley is employed to bring a reload. For many containers on the frame, only a few trolleys are required. The reload on the trolley has a similar container (14) which hold the required amount of sliver, with room at the top for the fingers (19) to hinge downwards and fall into recesses (17) around the circumference of the container (14), creating a smooth passage for the old coil to fall, and the new coil to be lifted. This is achieved by a ram in the base of the trolley. There is also a mechanism on the trolley to grip the end of sliver from the new coil, and join it to the end of sliver which is at the bottom of the expiring coil, before release. The joining mechanism then swivels away, and the ram lifts the new coil, with the remnant of the old coil on top, now jointed together, into the container (2), where the top space is now filled. There is an additional section in the base of the supply container (14), not only to life the fingers (9) back into support position at the base of container (2), but also to extract the end of sliver ready to join to a succeeding reload. ADVANTAGE - There is a continuation of supply of sliver without disruption on the frame, and there is no wastage of material.
