The food ordering system comprises a menu (2) with specially bar-coded dishes displayed in menu card, a bar-code (7) on the table (1) to signify table number, and a portable bar-code reader (3). The bar-code reader includes a belt antenna (31), a pen (33) to scan the bar-code, and a memory to store orders. Once data has been read, it is transmitted to a receiver for identification of requested orders with the associated table number. Coupled to the receiver are pref. data processors to generate bills and/or orders for certain ingredients to be retrieved from storage. USE/ADVANTAGE - Ordering in restaurants. Eliminates wrong orders being delivered and reduces labour required to collect and process order.
