Mfr. of mould material for continuous casting comprises (i) prepn. of age-hardening casting mould material; (ii) hot-working of the mould material by rolling; (iii) heat treatment of the rolled material to form a solid soln., (iv) hot or cold-working of the solid soln. by rolling, (v) heat treatment of the processed material until it is age-hardened, and (vi) hot or cold-working of the hardened material by rolling. Pref. following heat treatment of rolled material at 900-1000 deg.C to form a solid soln., the processing rate is such that the cross-sectional area of the material is reduced by in the order of 2-50%. The last two process steps (v and vi) are repeated at least once. ADVANTAGE - Improved physical strength without significant redn. in thermal conductivity.
