The video recorder uses a magnetic band with upper and lower magnetic recording layers (S1,S2) recorded with respective signal components having different azimuth angles (A), eg. of 6 and 30 degrees. Each of the magnetic recording layers is recorded with a pilot signal (P1,P2) combined with a line frequency, used during playback by a time error compensation circuit (63,65). Pref. the first magnetic recording layer (S1) is recorded with a pilot signal (P1) having a frequency of 625 kHz. The second magnetic recording layer (S2) is recorded with a pilot signal (P2) having a frequency of 156 kHz, both obtained from the same clock generator (TG) via a frequency divider (67). USE - For compensating different time errors for upper and lower recording layers.
