The coupling sleeve provides a housing (5,6,7) receiving the opposing ends of the two optical cables (1,2) and containing a carrier (8) for supporting the splice elements and the guide elements for the optical cable conductors (13,14). The carrier (8) has an associated tool for preparing the optical cable ends, or the optical cable conductors, e.g. a stripping tool for removing the cable sheath and/or the optical conductor outer coating and/or a pictogram for optical preparation of the optical cable or optical conductor ends over a given length. ADVANTAGE - Simple repair of optical cables without requiring special tools.
