Cooker with visible or infrared spectroscopic moisture detector - uses wavelength=selective property of interference filter deposited on sensor of light transmitted across cooking space

Food (2) is heated in a confined space (1) by radiant energy delivered by waveguide (4) from a magnetron (3) under microprocessor control (5). The space is lit by a lamp (6) and its moisture content is sensed by a thermostat (9) with a vapour-deposited interference filter (10) behind a small hole (8) in the opposite wall (7). The filter has a passband within one of the absorption bands of the H2O mol. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in a microwave oven, the detector measures moisture from the heated food directly within the cooking space but is easily protected from contamination by vapours.
