The rotary drum furnace (1) is for melting cast iron or lead (2). A rotary drum (3) encloses the melting chamber and is on one side heated with an oxygen burner (4) with a corresp. burner flame (5). Behind the oxygen firing burner (4) is an input device (11). Next to the burner (4) is an oxygen lance (8) directed into the furnace inner chamber, which together with the burner can be folded outwards and displaced in a longitudinal direction. On the opposite side of the rotary drum (3) to the burner side is an output aperture (6). In a connected exhaust gas channel (7) a further oxygen lance (9) is fitted, extending into the rotary drum.
