Screw and lever type car jack - has angle of hinged foot controlled by two tie rods, one each side of column, and connecting lifting lever to foot each side of hinge.
The column (1) of the jack has a hinged foot (2) and a screw actuated lifting lever (4), one end of which is pivoted (7) approx. halfway up the column. To allow the angle of the foot (2) to the column to be positively controlled a control link connection is required between the foot and the column. The foot control linkage is in the form of two flexible tie rods (8,9), one each side of the column and which attachment points on the lifting lever (4) and the foot (2) each side of the hinge pivot (10). The geometry of the linkage is such that the tie rods (8,9) do not cross over each other. The tie rods may be made from steel wire, steel cable, plastics strip etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - Screw- and lever-type car jack is of lightweight, low-cost design.
