A screw fastening device, for lid fastening onto pressure vessels (esp. of reactors), has a lid-supported carrier ring or the like, with engagement openings for threaded bolts arranged along part of a circle, and tensioning units which are mounted on the carrier ring and which tension the individual bolts, the tensioning units comprising parallel hydraulic tensioning cylinders and associated pressure bridging pieces supported on abutments on the bolts. The novelty is that the tensioning units (8) are mounted on the carrier ring (2) as constructed units which are adjustable radially to the partial circle of threaded bolts (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - The fastening device is esp. useful for the lid of a nuclear reactor pressure vessel. The tensioning force of the tensioning units can apply uniform tension to the bolts even when the bolts are bent or when partial circle errors or mfg. inaccuracies exist.
