The suction head (1) on a carrier arm (2) has a glass holding zone (11) which is at least partially in a double-walled construction. The outer wall (14) is water cooled, and the inner wall (13) is sepd. by a gap (12) from the outer wall (14) in a cold state. The gap (12) dimensions allow the inner wall (13) to expand, through repeated heating from the incoming molten glass, until it touches the outer wall (14). Pref. the gap between the walls is set to give a repeated intake and delivery of molten glass at a temp. of about 1200 deg.C with a coolant water temp. of about 20-40 deg.C to give an inner wall temp. of around 400 deg.C. The gap width, when cold, is about 0.2-0.3mm. A vacuum channel (21) is milled between the outer and inner walls (13,14), with a connecting gap between the end sides of the inner wall (13) and the cover (10) at the opening of the glass holding zone (11) as a link to the glass holding zone (11). The cross-section of the gap is small enough to prevent molten glass penetrating through. The double-walled glass holding zone (11) has an inner container (5) open at one side with a cylindrical mantle surface (13) and an outer container (4) round it, with a cylindrical mantle surface (14). When the inner container (5) container molten glass, the heat causes its wall (13) to expand to meet the wall (14) of the outer container (4) at least locally. The inner container (5) is centered within the outer container (4) and secured by a screw mounting (8). The open end of the inner container (5) has a flange round it (6) to be secured to the end of the outer wall (14) or a flange (7) round it. The intermediate zone (18) between the containers (5,4) is subjected to a vacuum while being filled with molten glass, with vacuum through an inlet (16) at the outer container. A further vacuum connection (20) is centrally at the section (19) of the inner container (5) towards the opening (9), with a ring gap connection to the intermediate zone (18). The glass holding zone (11), according to application, can accommodate 1.5-9.0 kg of molten glass, and the zone can be exchanged within the suction head (1) through the mounting (3) of rust-resistant cast material. The inner and outer walls (13,14) of the containers (5,4) are of chrome-nickel-steel. USE/ADVANTAGE - The suction head is for the transfer of small quantities of molten glass from the smelter to be used in hand blowing for small batches. The assembly keeps the molten glass in the required condition for the glass blower without additional units.
