A DNA probe for the identification of Staphylococcus (S.) haemolyticus derived from S. haemolyticus DNA cleaved with PsrI is claimed. Also claimed is a method, e.g. a dot blot, for S. haemolyticus determn. in a DNA sample using the probe and kit for performing the method contg. the probe, buffer and auxiliary agents. USE/ADVANTAGE - S. haemolyticus comprises 10% of those coagulase-negative S. which are prim. pathogens causing e.g. infections of implants, endophthalmitis and endocarditis. Therefore, it is necessary to clearly identify S. haemolyticus. Prior art methods used biochemical methods for the distinction of different S. strain.
