Measuring signal=to=noise ratio in sensor system with digital filter banks - separately measuring noise energy generated by system imperfections and quantifying distortion-free channel capacity
The method of measuring the signal/noise ratio of satellite supported telecommunication sensor systems having identical digital filter arrays for the multiplexing and subsequent separation/analysis of frequency multiplexed transmissions employs three separate determinations. The three measurements, based on the distortion energy falling outside the input frequency spectrum embraced by the multichannel transmissions are applied to one channel only which is adopted as a model for the system. They comprise (a) the determination of noise resulting from signal chopping/rounding, (b) the noise supplement due to spectral overlap, (c) a derivation of the maximum distortion-free capacity of the channel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Can be applied at small cost to systems using beam-forming networks. Enables independent evaluation of noise distortion arising from principal sources and maximum channel capacity for distortion-free transmission.
