A high speed magnetic tape cassette (10) has a pair of spools (22,24), the tape being transferred between them by passing over guide pins (42,44). A tape drive roller (46) is set into a central head access aperture and small rollers (32,36) maintain the tape parallel to the opening. Tape tension is maintained by a pair of flexible arms (52,72) pivot mounted at one end (56,76) and having a bearing pad (54,74) at the other. A torsion spring (60,80) applies a contact load to the arms. ADVANTAGE - Provides reliable tape tension control for high speed tape.
