A continuous press for the production of chipboards, fibreboards, laminates etc. has top and bottom members and metal (pref steel) bands which pass over rollers and at least one drive roller; at the daylight area these bands are subjected to a set specific high pressure through steel rods over which pressure is applied partic from heated platens; these platens have a Brinell hardness which varies continuously or in zones in line with the varying pressure along the direction of movement. ADVANTAGE - The press plates are made of normal steel but can be used for prolonged periods at pressures of above 400 N/cm2. (This contrasts with experience to date where the steel suffers from pits at high pressures).
