Laser welding installation - with some of the support rings of the tracing device mounted elastically, for joining sheet metal components

The appts. has a continuous-action high-power laser provided with a tracing device for maintaining a given distance between the laser head and the components. The tracing device consists of a rotatably mounted ring (1) whose outer rim rests on one of the components to be joined. The inner rim of the ring is provided with a flange (8) and rests on several rollers (2,2',4,4'). The axes of the rollers are located on a circle which is concentric with the ring (1), and at least one of the rollers is mounted so that it is displaceable. Pref. the tracing device is provided with three rollers. Two of these rollers are attached to a holder which is rigidly fixed to the carrier arm of the tracing device. The third roller is attached to a holder which - via a spring arrangement - is elastically connected to the carrier arm. Alternatively, the tracing device is provided with four rollers. The rollers (2,2') are rigidly mounted, while the rollers (4,4') are elastically mounted by means of springs (6). USE/ADVANTAGE - For joining sheet metal components. It allows the ring element of the tracing device to be rapidly changed (within 20 seconds).
