Pipette device consists of a combination of a special pipette, a special capillary sample holder, a programmed discharging function for the special pipette via special features of the capillary sample feature or a special pipetting program for the automated laboratory analyser. A sample containing capillary tube (7) is located in the pipette device so that its lower end is sealed by an electrically conducting plug (10) of elastomeric material, with its upper open end able to receive a fine pipette tube (12) having attached an electrode probe (16) which extends to slightly above the tip (13) of the pipette and is slidably adjustable along an electrically conducting calibrated graduated scale. In use the completion of an electrical path by the probe touching the sample surface, defines the submergence of the pipette tip (13) necessary to allow suction of the preset liquid quantity into the pipette. A vol. of 3-10 microlitre can be selected for each transfer, and larger volumes can be achieved by making multiple transfers. USE/ADVANTAGE - High integrity precision transfer of microlitre amts. of e.g. body fluid samples, such as blood plasma, from capillary containers into an automatic analyser, e.g. for blood gas measurement.
