A support for a current-carrying rail, esp. for urban railways comprises a plastic holder (1) which fits closely around the rail (3) and maintains it at a fixed distance from the running rails. Both the live (3) and running rails are supported on sleepers. The holder (1) consists of at least two close fitting profiles (20 mfd. in a thermoplastic materials, e.g. polyamide; polybutylene terephthalate or polyester reinforced with glass fibre. A mfg. process involves mixing the polymer with glass fibre and/or upto 2 vol. percent of carbon black. The components are injection moulded. Use of glass reinforced polyamide as a material for prodn. of the rotationally symmetric parts (5) is also claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - For supporting the live rail on urban railways. Can be rapidly assembled and does not require additional metal fittings for mounting. Gives high insulation and is not displaced or damaged by high loads and can be mounted on all types of sleeper. .
