Organopolysiloxanes of formula (I) (with X = R2) contg. SiC-linked residues with basic N and alkoxy gps. are prepd. by reacting a corresp. OH gp.-contg. polysiloxane (II) (formula I with X = R1 or -(CH2)x-OH (i.e. gp. A); each mol. contg. at least one gp. A) with an alkoxy-silane of formula R6(R5O)2Si-R4-N(R3)2 (III), the no. of mols. of (III) being such as to provide at least one OR5 gp. The reaction is carried out at 20-50 deg.C in the presence of at least 0.5 mol.% (per OR5 gp.) of a non-equilibrating acid (IV). R1 = 1-4C alkyl or Ph (at least 90% = Me); R2 = as for R1, or -(CH2)x-O-Si-(R6)(OR5)-R4-N(R3)2 (with x = 3-20; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R4 = -(CH2)y-, phenylene or -(CH2)2NH(CH2)3- (with y = 3-6); R5 = 1-4C alkyl; R6 = 1-4C alkyl or OR5; at least one of these gps. per mol.) a = 0-10; b = 0-1000. R1 is pref. Me, R3 = H, R4 = -(CH2)3-, R5 = Et, R6 = OEt, x = 3-6, a = 2-5, b = 50-700. (IV) is pref. HCl. Pref., the reaction is carried out at room temp., using ethanolic HCl soln. (III) is, e.g. gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (IIIA), 4-amino-phenyltrimethoxysilane etc.; pref. mol. ratio (II):(III) = (1:1.05)-(1:1.2) w.r.t. alkoxy gps. USE/ADVANTAGE - Silicones with basic N-contg. gps. are useful as release agents and lubricants (e.g. in tyre prodn.), components of textile treatment compsns., foam stabilisers or suppressants, antistatics, plastic additives etc. The process enables the prodn. of silicones with better lubricant/release properties (I), contg. SiC-linked residues with both basic N and alkoxy gps.; equilibration is prevented by avoiding basic catalysts.
