The process comprises subjecting soya material to thermal conditioning in an expander at a steam pressure of 8-20 bar at temps. of 100-150 deg.C using a residence time of a few tenths of seconds to several seconds and granulating followed by drying/cooling for solvent extn. esp. percolation extn. to obtain oil and fodder for animals. The soya material is opt. vibrated, fractionated heated and flocculated prior to thermal conditioning. Specifically, an expanded granulate with a dia. of 6-20 (8-12) mm and a fine particle portion of 15-40 (25-35)% produced using an opening ratio of the expander inner cross-section to the matrix perforation of 10-20:1 (13-17:1). ADVANTAGE - Urease activity in the fodder is inhibited and percolation speed is increased.
