To dispose of lignin sludge and other residue, with multiple contamination, it is initially sorted, treated with ozone gas and then filtered mechanically and/or physically. The water is extracted for the solid residue and saturated adsorption material to be heated with a dry distn. using a dedicated hot gas or steam. The residue from the dry distn. is either modified or mixed with the ashes from the hot gas generator for landscaping. Also claimed is an assembly with a preparation stage (2) with a decanter (7) followed by a gravel/stone filter (10) and/or an adsorber (11), with an ozone treatment stage (9) between the decanter and filter units. A converter, with indirect heating, gives the dry distillation supplied with exhaust gas from an incinerator. USE/ADVANTAGE - The technique is for the disposal of industrial sludge and waste from dumps, where the lignin sludge is heavily contaminated with a variety of hazardous material. The sludge is converted into a usuable material, without damage to the environment, and which avoids dumping in pits or former coal open-cast mining sites.
