The keyboard operating system involves using a single chip hardware circuit for automatic disabling of the numbers lock key and enabling or disabling the function keys upon connection of an external number keypad. The operating programme has each sampled row brought to a high potential, with the read-out switch condition data entered in a register, with a series of command codes fed from the computer in response to a keyboard code to control the function of the numbers lock key, using an internal keyboard code list. ADVANTAGE - Allows overall size of keyboard to be reduced by combining function of selected letter and number keys.
