In the cleaning of a spinning jet after a drawing unit, while the drawing unit is at rest, the drawing unit is started up before the spinning action is resumed, and suction is applied to the fibre path between the outlet of the drawing unit and the spinning jet. Also claimed is a drawing unit with mechanism which starts up the stopped drawing unit before spinning is resumed. Pref. the activated drawing unit is stopped again, before spinning is resumed, with a given time span between the second stoppage and resumption of spinning. When the spinning is interrupted, the spinning jet is moved clear of the sliver outlet at the drawing unit. The drawing unit is stopped by moving the upper rollers clear of the powered lower rollers, and working is resumed by moving the upper rollers back into place against the lower rollers. The stopping of the drawing unit interrupts the spinning action. The spinning jet is further cleaned while the drawing unit is temporarily restarted.
