The side (12) of the pool incorporates a shallow tray (14) around its top edge to hold filter media (22,24,26,28) through which water flows. The water is fed through an inlet (16) and runs through the media on a natural fall to an outlet (18) at the outlet end of the pool. Several separate pockets are formed in the tray by integral upward projecting ridges at intervals in order that different filter media can be used in each compartment. Alternatively the ridges (30) are not integral but are detachable interchangeable partitions. The water is propelled through the tray by a photovoltaic energy source assisted conveyor (20). Inside the pool (10) is an additional plant shelf (38) and subsidiary plant pockets (32,34). USE/ADVANTAGE - System designed to keep water in garden pond biologically clean.
