Heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, battery-charging and other auxiliaries are supplied from a h.v. bus (ZS) with an input voltage detector (E). The rectifier (5) feeds a h.v. inverter whose transformer (35) has four prim. windings (13, 16, 31, 32),each with its own thyristor switch (12, 17, 27, 33), capacitor (10, 11, 26,25) and free-wheeling diode (14, 15, 30, 29). The thyristors are fired pairwise in antiphase by ignition and quenching devices (18, 24) which apply positive and negative half-cycles to respective pairs of windings (13, 31; 16, 32). The centre-tapped sec. winding gives 460 V in total output for any input ( 1 or 1.5 kV AC or 1.5 kV DC). ADVANTAGE - Simplified circuit using fewer components has high power-wt./vol. ratio with simple series connection of thyristors or transistors w.r.t. high input voltage.
