The tapered round hole is passed between two parallel ring cutters for form the outer flat surfaces, and then pushed through a circular saw and cut in half (5). The two surfaces resulting from this cut are then passed over a planer under roller pressure, and the side edges (8) are trimmed by circular saw or planer. The surfaces (3, 8) are treated with glue under pressure, and the pieces of wood are pressed together to form a rectangular slab which is subsequently cut across to form pieces of quartering which are then run through a planer. Before gluing the half pieces are dried by open air or technical drying processes or a combination of the two.
