Electromagnetic actuator with differently excited armature segments - has valve ports opened selectively by withdrawal of actuating members against pressure of respective leaf springs

The armature is in three segments (1 sub 1-1 sub 3) of a ring with separate leaf springs (4) and an air gap (9) between each segment and the magnet body (10). An actuating member (6) is fixed to the outer face of each segment at the end remote from its spring. The free end of the actuating member closes a valve port (3) in the de-energised position. A sufficient energising current, which is different for each segment in the winding (2), withdraws the actuating member and opens the valve. ADVANTAGE - Number of actuation processes can be achieved with compact structure mfd. at favourable cost.
