Prodn. of 1-aminoanthraquine comprises reduced cpds of formula (I), where X is Cl, Br or OH, with aq. ammonia in the presence of reducing agents. The reducing agent is pref. sodium dithionite and (I) is 1-chloro-4-hydroxy anthraquinone. USE - (I) are dye intermediates.
