The twisting unit of a mechanical false twist spinning appts., has two counter-rotating discs overlapping each other at least partially with an acute angle. Sliding friction zones of differing sliding friction coefficients are at least at the edges of the facing surfaces of the discs. A yarn guide strip has an external mounting at the discs, extending towards the twist development zone. ADVANTAGE - The appts. stabilises the passage of the yarn through the twist development zone, with flexibility to compensate for changes in yarn thickness and/or thickened points and additional fibres.
