The conveyor is used for transporting bulk material, such as coal in an underground mine. It is so designed that it can follow a curved path. The conveyor belt is supported on a number of frames (3) which are joined end to end by a pivoted joint which enables each frame to swing about a vertical axis relatvie to the adjoining frames. Each frame is supported on wheels which run on guide rails. The frames support a chain and driving gear which drives the conveyor belt. The frames are moved to and from the work station by tractors (6) which are supported on endless tracks. The separate frames are swung relative to each other by means of actuators controlled by infra-red rays emitted from a control device (23) to enable the frames to negotiate the required curves.
