The cut sheet paper feed system has a tray (11) with a stack of sheets (30) supported on a base plate (14) that is subjected to spring force (17). The top sheet locates against a feed roller (21) that is part of the main equipment, e.g. photocopier, printer etc. The roller is rotated to extract the top sheet from the stack. The leading edges of the sheets lie against the surface of a flexible plate element (40). As the roller is rotated the top edge of the plate deflects slightly to allow only the top sheet to move off the stack. ADVANTAGE - Ensures that only single sheets are fed.
