Folding stairway between decks of large aircraft - has extending access housing at upper end to collapse into small unit for unimpeded emergency exit path

The folding steps are accesses via a housing at the top, to control the access and to prevent passengers from falling down the stairwell. The housing has a fixed section (5) and a movable section (6) to collapse into a compact unit when not required, e.g. during take-off and landing. The stairwell is covered by a hinged flap (9) when not required. The two section housing can be provided with one flexible section, or with the movable section from hinged panels to collapse into a compact space. The handrails (10) and ther folding steps fold into the deck space. USE/ADVANTAGE - Large aircraft, long haul aircraft. Minimum impedance to emergency exits, simple to deploy.
