The appts. to apply a random pattern to a continuous material by dropping liquid dye (2) from a container (1) onto the material (10) below has a rotating cylindrical brush (20) over the container (1), across the width of the material (10), with its bristle points (8) within the liq. (2). A beating surface (12) across the fabric (10) width is at the outlet (13) to take the droplets projected by the rotating brush (20) at its under side (12'), with its outer edge (13) displaced from the container (1). The projected droplets of dye (2) move along the under side (12') of the beating surface (12) to drop down onto the material (10) below. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is especially for carpeting and floor coverings, to apply a random coloured patterning. The coloration gives a variable patterning effect.
