The hybrid superconductive bearing has a superconductive bearing provided by a permanent magnet (14a, 14b) and a superconductive element (15a, 15b) between a rotary shaft (10) and a housing (9) enclosing the latter, with an auxiliary non-superconductive bearing (18a, 18b) selectively inserted between the shaft and the housing. Pref. the auxiliary non-superconductive bearing is inserted between the housing and the shaft until the shaft reaches a critical rotation velocity, at which the auxiliary bearing is released, to allow the shaft to be supported by the superconductive bearing. ADVANTAGE - Auxiliary bearing provides under-pinning for superconductive bearing.
