The chair has a bottom frame (1) to which the front of a seat surface (2) is joined. A backrest (3) is attached to the back of the seat surface made up of adjacent, flexible strips (4) approximately horizontal at the ends. The backrest consists of adjacent strips (5) vertical at the ends and joined at one end to a bar (4) and at the other end to the seat surface. The two outermost backrest strips (5a) are joined rigidly by a transverse connection (9). A cross-strut (8) is joined to the underneath frame or seat and grips behind the backrest strips on the side facing away from the seat.
