The vane regulating device, e.g. for a Francis or Kaplan turbine, uses an electric setting motor (3) supplied from a current network. An electromagnetic clutch couples the setting motor to the turbine blade setting mechanism and is released upon failure of the current network, so that the blades move into a closed position under a spring bias. The clutch is closed upon reconnection of the current network to re-establish the coupling between the motor and the blade setting mechanism. Pref. the clutch uses two opposing electromagnets, or an electromagnet (7) and a cooperating relatively movable ferromagnetic element (6). USE/ADVANTAGE - Hydro electric turbines. Prevents overrunning of turbine upon failure of mains network.
