The electrophoresis appts. includes a buffer wetting unit (19), a sample application unit (23), an electrophoresis current application unit (28), a post-treatment unit (34) for successive staining, de-staining and drying to obtain an electrophoretic image, and a photometric unit (35). The novelty comprises one of the following features: (i) a substrate sheet feed unit (13) for supplying a substrate sheet (17) to the buffer wetting unit (19), the substrate sheet (17) having a length corresponding to an arbitrary sample number introduction; (ii) a substrate strip feed unit (9), a substrate shear unit (15) and a control unit (16) for controlling the feed and shear unit in accordance with an arbitrary sample number introduction, the substrate strip (12) being sheared to sheets (17) of length corresponding to the number of introduced samples; or (iii) several substrate sheet feed units for supplying sheets of different lengths and a control unit for controlling the feed units in accordance with the arbitrary introduction of a number of samples, the sheet length being selected according to the number of samples. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for analysis of serum proteins. Analysis costs per sample and the analysis time are reduced.
