A position controller (1), for use in accurate movement or location of a workpiece or machine tool, processes the error signal (e) to provide a control action (u) that should not be modified by externally applied disturbance (z) before being applied to the process (2). For a periodic command input (w) the contribution of a complex conjugate pole pair frequency should be the approximately the same as the periodic frequency of the input. The controller includes a term to eliminate or suppress the disturbance effect. This can also be provided by selection of a feedback function (3). ADVANTAGE - Eliminate effect of periodic disturbances.
