One passive magnetic bearing (4) is arranged at one side of the impeller (3) and the other bearing (9) at the rotor side opposite the impeller. An active magnetic bearing with an electromagnet holds the impeller central against the effect of the passive magnetic bearings. The active magnetic bearing includes a multiple of combined electromagnets (20), each including a permanent magnet (21), lying on the other side of the impeller w.r.t. the housing part (2). An electromagnet controls the degree of freedom of the impeller, in the axis or rotation direction and around the centre of gravity. A control system (30) is provided for the zero power control of the active magnetic bearing. USE/ADVANTAGE - Semiconductor mfr. and medical instruments. Flow medium is not contaminated by electromagnets. Maintains driving power and increases radial stiffness with redn. of current consumption.
