The stiffening arrangement is for a section of vehicle bodywork. The end regions (11, 12) of a support beam (6) project, when the door (3) is closed, into recesses (14, 15) in the door posts (1, 2). Carrier parts (7, 8) to alter the length of the beam are displaceable relative to each other, and a mechanism (18) is provided to pull the end regions from the recesses in order to open the door, with the door closed, the mechanism creates a pressure tight and pull resistant connection for the carrier parts (7, 8).
