Latent heat storage mixt. contains alkaline earth hydroxide(s) (I) esp. in hydrated form, metal salt(s) (II) of a satd. aliphatic monocarboxylic acid (III) and opt. other additives. Mixt. pref. contains min. 50, esp. min 70 (mole)% (I) and 0.11-30 esp. 5-20% (II). (I) is Ba(OH)28H20 and/or Sr(OH)2.8H20 (IA). (II) is an alkali(ne earth), esp. Na salt and (III) a 1-3C acid, esp. acetic acid. Partic. (II) is Na acetate esp. the trihydrate (IIA). USE/ADVANTAGE - Mixt. used as storage medium in heat stores, pref. in vehicles esp. for use in the engine start and/or warm-up phase has a m.pt below 75 deg.C 60-75 esp. 70-75 deg.C and melting enthalpy of min. 400 pref. min 450 MJ/cu.m. Mixt. is useful in heat transfer processes has high melting enthalpy in the region of the specific operating temp. and is more compatible with the environment than comspsn. contg. chloride
