The grinding machine for grinding the circumference and the chamfered edges of cutting inserts, especially reversible cutting inserts, has a cup shaped grinding wheel which has two ring shaped concentric abrasive surfaces (19,21). The machine has a clamping mechanism for the cutting inserts (11) which enables the inserts to be moved along two axes which are arranged axially and radially with respect to the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel. The first abrasive surface (21) is used for grinding the circumference of the cutting insert whilst the second abrasive surface is used for grinding the chamfer. USE/ADVANTAGE - The machine can grind a relief surface on the cutting insert in addition to cutting edges and chamfer.
