The main chassis of the transmission carries a number of electromagnet coils (12) for control of transmission ratio and hydraulic pressure; sensors (14) of e.g. road speed, throttle opening and lubricant temp.; and a memory (16) for inherent properties of these devices and of frictional elements. The remote electronic control unit (18) reads the signal from the memory when a change of transmission ratio is commenced and corrects the operation in accordance with proximity of hydraulic pressure to upper or lower limits. ADVANTAGE - Can handle variations in properties of overall transmission and can correct for power fluctuations arising from variations in individual controllable device and components.
