The computer based solid modelling system uses a process that defines the boundary profiles of objects. The process uses representations (601a,601b) of simple geometric shapes (A,B) that are used to create a complex three dimensional unit (603). The contour data produced by these basic forms are processed by an interface (605) and are brought together (607). A selector (609) takes the relevant features and allows the new object (603) to be defined. A large number of basic forms can be stored and accessed for 3-D object generation.
