The engine cover is designed to move upwards during a collision to absorb some of the impact forces. At the same time a crush action occurs in the engine compartment. To ease the crush action selected components (2) are pulled out of the crush area by grips (4,6) which engage as soon as the crush action starts. The grips do not impede the normal action of the engine cover. The grips operate in conjunction with the cover locking mechanism. An additional safety feature has an automatic cut-off for the electric circuits operated by the removal of one of the components. USE/ADVANTAGE - All types of engine vehicles.
