To divide glass into a number of sections of required sizes, the glass is scratched along the break lines together with at least two zero cut scratch lines at right angles to each other near at least two glass edges, forming a corner. The scored glass is fed to a table, where at least one zero cut line is broken to separate an edge strip across the direction of travel. The glass strips are further advanced with the scored lines generally parallel to the line of movement, and the zero cut line parallel to the movement line is severed to remove an edge strip. The glass material is then advanced further to a fresh section of the table. Also claimed is an assembly with one unit (50) to break off the glass edge strip across the line of travel, and a further unit to break off the edge strip parallel to the movement. Each unit has a counter surface under the glass, along the break lines and two retainers bearing down on the glass from above. A tool is lowered against the retainer on the section to be separated to twist off the glass edge. USE/ADVANTAGE - The technique is for dividing a large glass sheet into panes, with the edge strip separation integrated into the operation, for clean edges at the separated panes.
