The lid (2) fits with matching shape on the container and is vacuum sealed by a sealing ring (3). The container can be rectangular or round. The container and lid are made from a heat-resistant vacuum stable material such as glass, ceramics, metal or special plastics and the containers are stackable. The underneath of the lid can have an edge (6) running round the lid and off-set inwards so that the lid fits accurately. The lid can have an indentation (4) corresponding to the basic outline of the container base to allow stacking of several closed containers. ADVANTAGE/USE- Even sensitive foods such as vegetables and pastries can be packed in this way since they are enclosed by a stable container.
