The sheet-metal structure comprises a basic portion (1) and reinforcing portions (2, 3a, 3b) locally joined to it. All portions may be deep-drawn or stamped in a common operation. The reinforcing portions are at least partly secured to the main one before this operation, and permanently so afterwards. This can be done by clinching, punched-in bolts and nuts, gluing or welding, and anti-corrosion measures can be carried out where the portions bear against each other. The structure can form part of a vehicle body or axle, the reinforcing portions being situated where forces act on it. USE/ADVANTAGE - Structures of large area and high quality can be produced.
