Electronically controlled grinder for re-tipping dental instruments - has coded instrument holding cassette and programmed twin disc grinding head operating in controlled circular arc around instrument tip.
The grinding machine for re-pointing the tips of dental instruments, e.g. scalers and scrapers for plaque removal, includes a housing which receives a coded holding/clamping (12) cassette (2) for positioning the particular instrument undergoing re-sharpening. Two grinding or polishing discs (1) in axial alignment driven by the electric motors (4, 5) are horizontally located on either side of the instrument and move in a vertical circle about an axis (3) by means of the semicircular guide-rails (9). The machine is able to operate around the precise contour of the instrument under the control of the electronic regulators (6, 7, 8) which respond to the cassette (2) coding. USE/ADVANTAGE - Ensures accurate re-tipping of instruments with minimum removal of material for increased service life. Cassettes can be styled to match particular instrument and corresp coded for electronic process control. Requires no operator skills and original contours are maintained in all planes.
