In mixing two media of different viscosity, the medium of lower viscosity flows through a mixing chamber while the medium of higher viscosity is sprayed into it in a radial direction. The novel feature is that the second medium is subjected to a higher pressure and is sprayed into the chamber in such a way that the pressure release causes it to be atomised. The fine particles produced dissolve immediately and without coagulation in the medium of lower viscosity. Also claimed is a device for carrying out the procedure, having a cylindrical housing with inlet and outlet connections on its end surfaces, and a pressure chamber with an inlet for the second medium. Nozzles lead from the pressure chamber through the wall of the mixing chamber. USE/ADVANTAGE - Coagulation of the second medium in the mixing chamber is avoided and a homogeneous mixt. is achieved. The mixing device is also easy to clean and has no rotating parts which might be subject to high wear.
