IR remote control esp. for domestic electrical equipment - operates bidirectionally with modem feeding received signal into power line and routing return data to infrared signal generator

A control unit (13), responsive to output of the infrared receiver (12), is wired to a modem unit (14) which, in a transmission mode, forwards the signal to an AC power line (P.L) and, in a reception mode, supplies data from the power line for conversion (16) into a corresp. infrared signal. The output from the receiver lights a LED in a display unit (15) by turning-on a transistor (TR2) with a high-level signal from a multivibrator (13A) which simultaneously switches the modem (14A) into its transmission mode. ADVANTAGE - Range of transmission and angle of reception of i.r. signal are widened and power consumption is minimised.
